Floating Grace

Inle Lake, Shan State, Burma.

Inle Lake's traditional Intha Fishermen play around in front of my camera as the morning mist envelopes the lake.  They get around on flat bottomed skiffs and use a technique of leg rowing, where they wrap a leg around the paddle and drive the boat through the water with a snake like swirling motion of the leg.  They push tall reed baskets into the shallow waters to trap fish and then spear them through an opening on the top.
