Peanut Seller

Yangon, Burma.

This woman is selling peanuts to feed the pidgeons near a Hindu Temple in Yangon, Burma.  The face paint is called Thanaka and it is used by most Burmese woman as a skin moisturizer, sunscreen and for fashion. Her lips are red because she has been chewing betel nut which turns to a red wine colored fluid when it mixes with saliva in the mouth. The red dot on her forehead is a tikka, commonly worn by women of Indian cultural heritage.
